A Year in Review

News: not my forte. Nonetheless, it was a good year for my new book, Ruba’iyat for the Time of Apricots, which was shortlisted for the J.M. Abraham poetry award, and won the Robert Kroetsch Award for Poetry from the Book Publishers Association of Alberta. My 2015 collection Niche continues to resonate with readers and educators, and was a finalist for the 2019 Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia Masterworks Arts Award. In my limited forays outside the realm of poetry, my essay “The Clouds Also” was longlisted in The New Quarterly’s Edna Staebler Personal Essay Contest. I had the fascinating opportunity to collaborate with percussionist Erin Donovan thanks to Lexicon Books and suddenlyLISTEN. I was also very fortunate to help my friend poet/playwright shalan joudry launch the print version of her play Elapultiek. In other news, it was a bad year for winter squash, and a good year for raspberries.
